Expression as a transmission of human experience

Workshop of International Theatre Studio Farm in the Cave under the leadership of Viliam Dočolomanský and members of the company.

9. – 13. 12. 2007

Preslova 9, Prague

Actors training of Farm in the Cave was created on the basis of direct touch of form of cultural expressions /songs cante jondo, Ruthenian rituals, trainings of toreados, Flamenco …/ Everyday training the actors of the Studio disengaged from the interpretation of an already created piece to a direct reflection of the reality. They have created such an actors method and specific theatre language through which they communicate with audiences of different world continents. “Transmission of an experience” is realized directly: through vibration of movement and voice.

Through adopting inspiration from a different culture as unknown terrain the actor is getting in his/her manifestation beyond so called self-expression, beyond the borders of his/her own culture, beyond self-determination. “Body language” articulates an experience which is not possible to be expressed by words. While the actor is searching for rhythmical synchron with a partner on the stage he/she is heading to a co-creation and mutuality.

Song, action, gesture, intonation are turning into material for building up the individual actors actions. At the beginning of the process there is fixation of fragments /piece of melody, torso of partners´ improvisation, “training with a wall”, personal memory etc./ and absorption of extraneous elements. Via following variations /overlay, montage, transformation/ completeness of an expression and its direct and objective influence of here and now is being observed.
Grounding, interaction of diverse rhythms and tension in the body, contraction of the energy flow – “nozzle, contactless sharing of the tension between two partners and “stamina” deepen concentration, resilience and scenic presence of the interpreter. Through the techniques of the work shall the participant touch personal subject as alive source which he/she draws from.

The body of the actor is a terrain or unknown landscape which he/she has inherited. Body and culture is heritage which should yet be adopted through the effort of personal development.
